Hello! My name is Diana Chavez and I’m the owner of Segulah Boutique and Alterations by Segulah Boutique. I sell handcrafted jewelry, men’s and women’s linen clothing, crocheted items. I also offer alterations and tailoring services. I have a wide range of experience in altering clothes from sample hems to altering wedding dresses and tailoring men’s tuxedo suits.
Personally, I enjoy creating jewelry, making cute crocheted things, and teaching others how to crochet. I also enjoy introducing people to the art of sewing. I teach the basics of hand sewing all the way up to making your own clothing on a sewing machine.Ever since I was a little girl, I loved making clothes for my Barbie dolls. I would spend more time making the tiny little clothes for my dolls than actually playing with them and my passion for sewing just grew from there.
In middle school, I took only one semester of Home Economics class where, for the first time, I experienced how to use a sewing machine because at that time my family was too poor to buy one for me. I was so excited to learn that I advanced faster than the other students. It was because of my excitement that I had the opportunity to be one of the first students to use the sewing machines.
In high school, I often altered my clothes and made unique custom vests. There were times that my classmates loved them and they offered to buy them right off my back! Oddly, it never crossed my mind to make custom clothes for people and sell them. I originally wanted to be a pilot when I grew up so opening my own store was not in my radar.
In the spring of 2017, I started making handcrafted jewelry and began selling it on Etsy when I lived in Arizona. I would do some small sewing projects and sew for my family members here and there but nothing very serious. At that time, I had a full time job and only was interested in making handcrafted jewelry; thinking that sewing was just a hobby.
Later in 2017, I was led to move to Cleveland, TN with my two sons. Shortly after that, I started working at Jos A. Bank, a men’s clothing store in the Chattanooga mall, as a tailor. Within those 5 years my handcrafted jewelry store became a boutique where you could find alteration services, take sewing classes and buy custom clothing, cute crochet items, and book-box organizers.
The Father has also blessed me by opening the door to teach the sewing classes at a quilt shop called “The Stitchery”. I am especially excited to share my sewing skills that I have learned over the years to my sewing students.
